Abstract

The proposed project involves constructing an interchange at I-16 and Pooler Parkway approximately 4.1 km (2.6 miles) west of I-95, and extending Pooler Parkway from its current terminus at U.S. Highway 80 to Quacco Road (Figures 1 and 2).

The interchange design at I-16 would be a diamond configuration with one lane in each quadrant. Construction of the proposed interchange would be on a new location. Interchange ramps would be 4.8 m (15.7 feet) wide with 1.8 m (5.9 foot) paved shoulders on the outside and 1.2 m (3.9 foot) inside shoulders. The proposed typical section for the ramps requires a right-of-way of 8 m (26 feet). The proposed interchange encompasses approximately 21 hectares (53.8 acres) around I-16 and the proposed Pooler Parkway.

Pooler Parkway Phase II extends Pooler Parkway Phase I from its southern terminus at U.S. Highway 80 in a southerly direction across the Pooler wastewater treatment plant effluent disposal field and the Pine Barren Road and I-16 intersections, and terminates at Quacco Road.

Pooler Parkway Phase II from Quacco Road to I-16 would consist of a two-lane section with rural shoulders transitioning to a four-lane section with a 13.6 m (44.6 foot) depressed median. From the I-16 Interchange to U.S. Highway 80, Pooler Parkway Phase II is a four-lane section with a 13.6 m (44.6 foot) median.

The right-of-way varies from 36 m (118.1 feet) to 70.6 m {229.7 feet) from Quacco Road to I-16 and from 70 m (229.7 feet) to 108 m (354.3 feet) from the I-16 Interchange to U.S. Highway 80.
