Abstract

Several Federal laws and regulations give the Marine Corps the authority and the responsibility to manage the historic resources on lands under its jurisdiction. To accomplish the primary management goals of identification and evaluation of the historic resources present at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Marine Corps Headquarters arranged to have the Mobile District, US Army Corps of Engineers historic resources staff survey (USACE 1990) the facility. That survey recommended one site as potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. This report documents that evaluation of 9Du69. Those laws and regulations authorizing and governing this action include the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended including the National Historic Preservation Act Amendments of 1992, the Reservoir Salvage Act of 1960 as amended by the Archeological and Historical Preservation Act of 1974, Executive Order 11593, the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979, the National Environmental Policy Act and Marine Corps Order 11000.19, dated 14 May 1986 and Department of Defense Directive 4710.1, dated 21 June 1984. The present investigations were initiated to evaluate the site in preparation for road rehabilitation which MCLB Albany felt would further impact the site. Additionally, continued erosion of the ditch faces was reducing the site's integrity.
