Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Mobile, Alabama was contracted by Trileaf Corporation of Maitland, Florida to conduct a Phase I archaeological survey for the proposed Gully Creek VoL TE Marco cellular tower in Jeff Davis County, Georgia. The proposed tower will be a self-support type constructed to a height of 300 ft. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) for direct effects includes a .23ac lease area with a proposed 0.34ac gravel access and utility easement extending 488 ft. in length by 30 ft. in width from Highway 341 southeast. The total area of the direct effects APE including the lease area and joint access and utility easement amount to .57 acres. Background research and the field survey followed guidelines established under the FCC Programmatic Agreement. Two previously recorded archaeological surveys were identified within the project APE. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no new archaeological cultural resources were encountered. A review of recorded historic properties at the Georgia Historic Preservation Division in Stockbridge, Georgia revealed one previously identified historic structure within the APE. It is the opinion of TerraX that the proposed tower will have no effect on any historic resources within the APE. Based on the findings of this investigation, TerraX recommends no further investigation for the proposed Gully Creek VoL TE Marco cellular tower project.
