Abstract

The project would begin with the extension of Little Richard Penniman Boulevard from Telfair Street to the· existing Fall Line Freeway. The alignment will use portions of the existing two lane Edgewood Avenue and Elm Street, as well as a small portion of new alignment to connect the two existing streets. The proposed section would consist of a 1 lane roadway with two 3.6 meter (12 foot) through lanes in each direction, a 6 meter (20 foot) raised landscaped median, a . 75 meter (2.5 foot) curb and gutter, and 1. 5 meter ( 5 feet) sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. A 3 0 meter ( I 00 foot) right-of-way will be required for this project. Left hand turn lanes will be provided at the intersections of Telfair Street, Second Street, Third Street, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Seventh Street and the Fall Line Freeway. This project would provide a multi-lane corridor linking Mercer University Drive to the proposed Fall Line Freeway. The portion of the project from Penniman Boulevard to Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard will be known \1/11 as the South Downtown \1/11 Connector, with a length of .8 kilometers (.5 mile). The eastern section of the project will be known 1/11 as the Edgewood Avenue upgrade, with a length of .8 kilometers (.5 mile). The total project length is I. 6 kilometers ( I mile).
