Archaeological Resources Survey for the Lavender Road Substation, Clarke County, Georgia

Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the proposed Lavender Road Substation in Clarke County, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of.the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The total area surveyed consisted of one tract totaling approximately 1.29 hectares (3.2 acres) The area surveyed encompass part of an existing transmission line right-of-way. The project area lies north of State Route 10 and southeast of Attica, Georgia near the dividing line between Clarke and Jackson counties. No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the project area boundaries through background research at the State Site Files Database maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the State Archives.

No archaeological sites were identified during fieldwork. No isolated finds were located in the project area. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
