Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Mobile, Alabama was contracted by Trileaf Corporation of Marietta, Georgia to conduct a Phase I archaeological direct effects survey and a visual effects survey for the proposed CANTON BALL-B cellular tower in Cherokee County, Georgia. The area of potential effects (APE) for direct effects includes a proposed 8,000 sq ft lease area with a proposed access road. The access road measures 1643.5 ft (501 m) in length by 30 ft (9.1 m) in width to connect with Canton Road. The proposed tower will be a stealth structure and constructed to a height of 199 ft (60.6 m). The total area of the direct effects APE including the lease area and joint access and utility easement amounts to 1.33 acres (.54 hectares).

Background research and the field survey followed guidelines established under the FCC Programmatic Agreement. No previously recorded archaeological sites are situated within a .5 mile radius of the project area. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological sites or cultural material were encountered. The visual effects research found one previously recorded property within the .5 mile radius, Resource 11742. It is the opinion of TerraX that while the resources has significance, it does not retain enough integrity to be eligible for the NRHP. Therefore, the proposed CANTON BALL-B cellular tower is expected to have no effect on any historic or prehistoric resources that are listed in eligible for listing in the NRHP.
