Abstract

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. (AECOM) conducted fieldwork for the third addendum Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed State Route (SR) 11/United States (US) Highway 129 bridge replacement over Bluff Creek in Pulaski County, Georgia. AECOM was contracted by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to locate and evaluate archaeological resources within the Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB), which was developed to reflect the project's design requirements and consideration of alternatives. The ESB consists of the Area of Potential Effects (APE) and an additional 100-foot buffer. The APE was developed based on plans provided by the project design team and includes all existing and required right-of-way (ROW) and easements proposed within the project limits. The current addendum survey area, developed in consultation with the GDOT archaeologist, is comprised of portions of the ESB that were not covered by previous studies. Identified resources were then evaluated in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Further, work was performed in accordance with GDOT's Environmental Procedures Manual (EPM) (GDOT 2013) and the Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists' (GCPA) guidelines for archaeological investigations (GCPA 2014). Three previous surveys have been completed as part of this effort; the original survey was completed in 2007, an addendum survey was completed in 2010, and a second addendum survey was completed in 2016. The current survey is the third addendum Phase I archaeological survey for the proposed SR 11 bridge replacement over Bluff Creek in Pulaski County, and resulted in the revisit of three previously recorded archaeological sites (9PU100, 9PU105, and 9PU120).
