Abstract

This report documents the results of the Phase I archaeological survey for Impact 7G Project AT&T Site NRGEO033138, located in Buchanan, Haralson County, Georgia. The survey was conducted to ensure that resources eligible for or listed in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) located within the Area of Potential Effect (APE) are not adversely affected by the proposed project. This work is being done as required by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended) and its implementing regulations, 36 CFR Part 800. In addition, this document is being submitted in compliance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) "Nationwide Programmatic Agreement for Review of Effects on Historic Properties for Certain Undertakings Approved by the Federal Communications Commission" (FCC 2005).

Based on field observations, a pedestrian survey and shovel testing were employed within the proposed project area. Six Shovel Test Pits (STPs) were placed in the project area. The fieldwork was performed by Neal Sexton, Archaeological Technician of JMT working under the direct supervision of Abigail Heller, Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) of JMT. Fieldwork was performed on November 21, 2020 and one day was spent in the field. No artifacts were uncovered, no archaeological sites were identified, and no additional archaeological testing is recommended at this location.

In accordance with 36 CFR Part 800, JMT has assessed the effects of the proposed project on listed and eligible National Register resources in the proposed project APE. Six STPs were excavated during the Phase I archaeological survey. No archaeological sites were identified. No additional archaeological testing is recommended. There are no previously recorded NRHP-eligible or listed historic above-ground resources within the APE for direct effects. No previously recorded NRHP eligible or listed historic above-ground resources are located within a 0.75-mile radius of the project area.

As a result of the background research and field survey, JMT recommends a finding of No Historic Properties Present within the APE for Direct Effects for the proposed telecommunications project, Impact 7G Project AT&T Site NRGEO033138.
