Abstract

The project limits include a section of Lafayette Road, beginning at State Route (SR) 2, and continuing south through Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, and terminating at Harker Road. The project length is approximately 4,400 feet (.8 mile). Lafayette Road is a four lane highway with a shared central turning lane running the length of the project corridor. Sidewalks along the corridor average 5 feet in width and are separated from the edge of pavement by curb and gutter and a 2 foot grass strip. Existing right-of-way (ROW) is on average 90 feet. The proposed project would include the construction of 8-foot wide sidewalks, a 10-foot raised concrete median, new curb and gutter, and designation and striping of SHAROWS for vehicles and cyclists. All additions and improvements are proposed within existing ROW, although some construction easements may be needed. All additions and Improvements associated with the project would be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
