Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing bridge (Structure ID 317-5034-0) on County Road (CR) 197 (Big Cedar Road) over Rocky Creek in Wilkes County, Georgia. The existing two-lane bridge is approximately 9.14 meters (m) (30 feet [ft]) in width, with horizontal clearance of 7.3 m (24 ft), and the roadway approaches are approximately 6.09 m (20 ft) in width. The bridge would be replaced with a new bridge that meets current American Association of State Highway and Transportation (AASHTO) specifications with regard to lane width, shoulder width, live load capacity, and crash worthy railing system. It is anticipated that the new bridge would be constructed on the existing alignment while traffic is directed to an offsite detour. The existing right-of-way (ROW) along CR 197 measures approximately 30.48 m (100 ft). The total length of the proposed bridge replacement project would be approximately 0.40 kilometers (km) (0.25 miles [mi]), and the total duration of construction would be approximately 12 months.
