Abstract

The project consists of replacing the existing five-span bridge on State Route (SR) 61/ US 411 at Sumac Creek, located approximately 1.6 miles north of Crandall in Murray County (Figure 1). The total project length is approximately 0.8 miles. The existing bridge, Structure ID 213-0017-0, was built in 1925 and partially reconstructed in 1957. It consists of two concrete arch units and three spans of concrete T-beams. SR 61 is functionally classified as a major collector and has a posted speed limit of 55 mph. The existing typical section is two 12-ft lanes, one in each direction with 8-ft graded shoulders (2-ft paved). The existing bridge is expected to be replaced with a new multi-span bridge, approximately 240 to 260-feet long, on a parallel offset alignment. The new bridge will have two 12-feet lanes, one in each direction, with 8-feet shoulders. The existing Right of Way (ROW) is 130 feet wide.
