Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM) has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in DeKalb County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located south of S. Stone Mountain-Lithonia Rd. at 33°45'18.8"N 84°09'37.2"W as seen on the Stone Mountain, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area consists of a grass lot adjacent to a railroad embankment and measures 70-ft by 30-ft for a proposed monopole site with a 30-ft by 30-ft access drive extending southeast; approximately 0.07-acres in total (Figure 3).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sit~s overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on August 25, 2021 by archaeblogist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Jamie Cochran-Smith M.A., Ball State University 2011, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
