Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Lowndes County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located directly south of US Highway 84 E and east of Old Naylor Road in Naylor at 30°53'54.4"N 83°06'09.0"W as seen on the Naylor, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project location consists of a graveled area between a railroad berm and drainage ditch, and measures 20 ft by 60 ft for a proposed monopole telecommunications tower with a 20ft by 31 ft access easement; approximately 0.02-acre in total (Figure 3).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on July 6, 2021 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008 under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
