Abstract

This project will replace the existing 139-foot (42-meter) three-span bridge built in 1962 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (Structure ID 207-0006-0) (Figure 1). The proposed bridge is anticipated to be 200 feet (60 meters) long with 47.4 feet (14 m) of total deck width and 44 feet (13 m) of roadway width, carrying two 12-foot (3.6-m) lanes with 10-foot shoulders. The proposed roadway approaches will consist of two 12-foot lanes, 6.5-foot paved shoulders, and 10-foot (3-m) total shoulders. The Norfolk Southern Railroad route has been designated as a Super Corridor, and therefore, it is required that the proposed bridge provide space for up to three future tracks to pass underneath. Existing right-of-way (ROW) is 80 feet (24 m). Proposed ROW would vary from 108 to 155 feet (32 to 47 m).
