Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM) has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Jackson County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located approximately 990-ft northwest of Athens Hwy and Rock Forge Rd at 34°04'22.3"N 83°33'14.7"W as seen on the Jefferson, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area consists of a sparsely wooded location and maintained grass lawn directly north of a railroad berm and measures 430-ft by 20-ft for a proposed telecommunications tower site and access easement; 0.20-acre in total (Figures 3 & 4).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on March 31, 2022 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008 under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
