Abstract

Archaeological survey was conducted on the proposed Bradywine tap transmission line corridor and 115 kV substation site in Forsyth and Fulton counties, Georgia. The study was conducted by Southern Research for Oglethorpe Power Corporation during June, 1996. The survey area includes several small tributaries of Chicken Creek, a minor tributary of the Etowah River, and heavily dissected upland ridges. The transmission line corridor extends approximately 4.8 kilometer (km), or 3 miles and the proposed substation site covers 2.4 ha, or 5.8 acres (ac). One portion of the proposed transmission line corridor parallels an existing transmission line and is predominately pasture land. Another sections parallels existing an highway right of way, while the third section is cross country through wooded terrain. The survey was conducted by a two-person crew in a two day period. The survey located five isolated artifact finds, but no archaeological sites. No significant sites that are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places were identified.
