Abstract

This is a reconnaissance level survey of a previously recorded site, 9Du81, for the purpose of examining the effect of usage of the land as a spoil site for dredging by drag-line to clear a nearby channel. The Army Corps of Engineers requested a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey to determine impact on the proposed spoil site before allowing the project to proceed. The site has been surveyed and tested, and found to be heavily impacted by destructive forces, natural and man-made. The effect to the site of previous forces has resulted in heavy site destruction, to the point of non-eligibility for National Register or other considerations.
