Abstract

In November 1996, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of the proposed Parker Road improvement and extension corridor in Rockdale County, Georgia. Project goals included background research, archaeological and architectural field survey, and evaluation of all cultural resources within or adjacent to the proposed corridor. Background research conducted at the Georgia State Archaeological Site Files in Athens found no previously recorded archaeological sites in the proposed corridor. Research conducted at the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Natural Resources did not locate any structures nominated to or listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). No historic structures (i.e., more than 50 years old) were located within or adjacent to the proposed corridor. The project corridor passes through a suburban area occupied by houses constructed during the middle to late twentieth century. Archaeological field survey did not locate any archaeological sites. Since no cultural resources were identified, it is recommended that all construction permits be granted and work proceed.
