Abstract

An archaeological survey of a proposed road right-of-way was conducted in a portion of the Oconee National Forest. Two prehistoric archaeological sites were discovered. Both sites date primarily to the Lamar period with minor components dating to the Late Archaic period. The sites are within the Wallace Area Archaeological District listed in ,the National Register of Historic Places and both are significant at the local level. One site will experience no adverse effect as portions of it have experienced severe disturbance. The other site will experience no adverse effect as the right-of-way has been re-routed to avoid any impact.
