An intensive archaeological resources survey was conducted by the Michael Baker Jr., Inc., Cultural Resources Staff (Atlanta Division) in Madison County, Georgia, at the proposed site for Georgia Transmission Corporation's Danielsville Substation and Transmission Line. The substation site incorporates a irregular unit of land measuring 109 m (360 ft) by 136 m (450 ft) by 145 m (478 ft) by 132 m (434 ft), and a for a coverage of 1.67 hectares (4.18 acres). The transmission line includes a 9 m (30 It) wide right-of-way for a distance of approximately 167 m (550 ft) and a 23 m (75 ft) wide right-of-way for a distance of approximately 970 m (3200 fit), adding an additional coverage of 2.38 hectares (5.95 acres). Total project area thus encompassed 4.05 hectares (10.13 acres). The archaeological work was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, by personnel qualified under 36 CFR part 61. Methodology included both background research and fieldwork. The background research revealed that no previously recorded significant archaeological sites were located within the project's area of potential effect. The fieldwork resulted in the identification of no (O) surface or subsurface archaeological resources. Since no significant archaeological resources will be impacted by the undertaking, no further investigations are recommended.
