Abstract

This report is documentation of archival and field research conducted for the McIntosh County Department of Leisure Services, McIntosh County, Georgia. The objective of this study was to determine the presence, if any, of archaeological and cultural resources in an area proposed for construction of the Lion's Club and Eulonia Recreation Parks. The survey was made at the request of Mr. Steve Jesup of McIntosh County Leisure Services to fulfill the requirements set by the State Archaeologist, Department of Natural Resources, State of Georgia. Archival research was conducted by Ms. Bessie Lewis, a noted historian who resides in Darien, Georgia. This documentation includes all historic references to the survey area with regard to European occupation. Ms. Lewis noted no European settlement or activity in the survey area which would be impacted by subsequent construction. No sites listed in the National Register were noted no r any sites eligible for inclusion in the National Register. Ms Lewis' complete report is included as Appendix 1. No aboriginal sites were known in the immediate survey area. A sand burial mound is known to exist some 2 miles to the northeast of the survey area (Steve Jesup, personal communication) so that the possibility of aboriginal occupation of the survey area was kept well in mind.
