Abstract

The proposed project is located at the intersection SR 81 and CR 642/Bold Springs Road in Walton County, Georgia. The project proposes the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of SR 81 and Bold Springs Road. The proposed project will minimize the number and severity of crashes by reducing potential angle crashes. Both SR 81 and Bold Springs Road are currently two lane rural major collector roadways and stop controlled on all approaches. The existing right of way (ROW) is approximately 60 feet in width on SR 81 and 80 feet in width on Bold Springs Road. The proposed right of way and/or easement from each approach is approximately 75-feet on each side of the roadway. The proposed project length is approximately 0.26 miles. The project description was revised in a Revised Special Studies Request (RSSR) on September and the alignment of SR 81 is being extended beyond its intersection with Bold Springs Church Road (BSCR) approximately 150-ft. and about 1,013 feet on SR 81 had been added for incorporating a four-way stop during the detour phase. The alignment extension is to allow the intersection of Bold Springs Road and BSCR and BSCR itself to be used during the construction detour. BSCR at SR 81 would be an all-way stop during the detour. BSCR (detour route) would then be milled, overlay, and re-striped to the existing condition once the detour is complete. Work on BSCR would be limited to existing ROW/pavement footprint. Work within the vicinity of the BSCR and SR 81 intersection would consist of milling and overlay and allow for an all-way stop intersection during detour operation; the milling and overlay on SR 81 would extend approximately 50-feet south of its intersection with BSCR. The additional survey area requested (150 feet width on SR 81) allows survey to demarcate existing ROW boundaries-disturbed areas anticipated limited to existing pavement/shoulders. The alignment extension is to allow the intersection of Bold Springs Road and Bold Springs Church Road itself to be used during the construction detour. The roadway will then be milled and re-striped to the existing condition once the detour is complete. Bold Springs Church Road would be milled, overlay, and re-striped to the existing condition once the detour is complete. Work on Bold Springs Church Road would be limited to existing ROW.
