Abstract

In February 1998, Brockington and Associates, Inc. began the initial phase of curatorial and archival preparation for the Corps of Engineers archaeological artifacts, field records, photographs, maps, analyses, reports, and other pertinent data from Carters Lake now stored at the University of Georgia, Riverbend Research Facility Archaeological Laboratory, Athens, Georgia. During this initial phase, artifacts and documentation from the Little Egypt Site (9MU102) were the focus of the project. All artifacts from the first two field seasons and Excavation Units 1, 2, and 6 (excepting NAGPRA related items) and all documentation of the Little Egypt Site were rebagged, relabeled, and reboxed in archivally stable materials and prepared for long term storage. In addition, recommendations were made concerning further work needed to prepare these artifacts and materials for future research and to insure their stability in long term storage.
