Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey of a proposed 12 ha (30 ac) truck stop in Franklin County, Georgia found one prehistoric site (9Fk34) and noted the remnants of an early twentieth century residence and outbuildings, the Chambers House (9Fk35). At one time the farmstead was considered eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) by the Georgia Mountains Regional Development Center, but the house has been nearly demolished in recent months. As a consequence, neither the Chambers House nor the prehistoric site appears to be eligible to the National Register of Historic Places, and no additional archeological or historical investigations are warranted.
