Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the Georgia Transmission Corporation's proposed Tank Road Substation and Transmission Line in Wayne County, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The total area surveyed included a roughly 0.6 hectare (1.5 acres) area of impact for the substation construction, and approximately 4.6 km (2.9 miles) of transmission line right-of-way. The width of the proposed transmission line right-of-way is 30 m (100 ft). No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the project area boundaries through background research at the Georgia State Historic Preservation Division nor with the State Site Files Database maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia. No archaeological resources were identified during fieldwork. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
