Abstract

On May 17, 2000 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) conducted a Phase I intensive cultural resources survey for the proposed replacement of the S. R. 155 bridge over Little Cotton Indian Creek in Henry County, Georgia. The survey was conducted for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) through the firm of J. B. Trimble in Atlanta. The survey included an area 30 m (100 ft) on either side of the existing bridge and rights-of-way for 300 m (1200 ft) on both approaches to the bridge. The area of potential effect is expected to be smaller than the area surveyed for cultural resources. The intensive cultural resources survey located no sites or isolated finds for the entire project area. Therefore, because of the lack of cultural resources within the area of potential effect, we recommend that the project be allowed to proceed.
