Abstract

On June 6, 2000 an archeological survey was conducted within the area of potential effect for a proposed reconstruction of the existing intersection of five-laved Roswell Road and fivelaned Northridge Drive, in northern Fulton County. The existing T-intersection will be widened and slightly reconfigured to aid traffic flow, mostly by adding new turning lanes on the west side of Roswell Road. Virtually all of this new construction will occur within existing right-of-way of Roswell Road, but close to the intersection some additional right-of-way is required. The survey confirmed that the most of the proposed improvements are within the existing right-of-way, which has been almost entirely disturbed by ditching and grading associated with the present roads and adjacent developments. The intersection is heavily developed with commercial businesses and thus the land abutting the right-of-way is heavily landscaped and developed. Archival research showed that no archeological or house sites occurred in the project area. Field inspection failed to recover any evidence of prehistoric or historic sites in the project area. No archeological sites exist within the proposed project's boundaries. Therefore, construction will not adversely impact any significant cultural resources and the project should be allowed to proceed.
