Abstract

A summary of the archeology and history of Hermitage Island based upon a literature search and reconnaissance survey is provided. Systematic and intensive survey of the 1000 acre project area revealed two archeological sites--the early eighteenth century homestead of Mark Carr and a prehistoric midden which yielded Archaic and Woodland material. Proposed construction, as detailed in the Scope of Work, will have no impact upon these sites.
