Abstract

In February 2001, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological survey of the Garrett Landfill tract in Chatham County, Georgia. Investigations involved background research and the pedestrian traverse of transects across the entire 11.6 hectare tract. No cultural resources were located during the archaeological survey. Site 9CH688, the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal, is located south of the tract. The canal is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (Bailey et al. 1996). Since a 30 meter vegetated buffer will be maintained along the southern edge of the Garrett Landfill tract, ground disturbing activities in the Garrett Landfill tract will not affect historic property 9CH688 (the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal). Further management consideration of the Garrett Landfill tract with respect to cultural resources is not warranted.
