Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the proposed Waynesville Transmission Line and Substation in Brantley and Glynn Counties, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The corridor surveyed is approximately 7.74 km (4.81 mi) long and 30 meters (100 ft) wide. The project corridor begins at the intersection of Duval-Thalmann 500 kv, Kingsland -West Brunswick 115 kv, and Colerain-West Brunswick 230 kv on the north side of US Route 82 and extends west following north and south of US Route 82. The corridor enters Waynesville city limits and continues to the intersection of US Route 82 and Grady Boyd Road and ends at the proposed Waynesville Substation. The proposed substation is approximately 3.64 hectares (9 acres) and lies in the southeast corner of the intersection of US Route 82 and Grady Boyd Road. The entire corridor meanders within and adjacent to the right-of-way for US Route 82, an existing power line, and underground cables. This survey was conducted for Georgia Transmission Corp. No significant archaeological finds were identified during fieldwork. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
