Abstract

The project consists of improving the intersection of East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Hambrick Road by adding right and left turn lanes from Hambrick Road onto East Ponce de Leon Avenue, and a right turn lane from East Ponce de Leon Avenue onto Hambrick Road. Implementing this project will require an additional 5 m (15 ft) of new right-of-way on both sides of Hambrick Road for a length of 135 m (450 ft), and additional right-of-way at its intersection with Ponce de Leon Avenue for the construction of turn lanes. The new right-of-way, or area of potential effect, consists of less than half an acre.

The intersection is located in DeKalb County, a short distance west of Stone Mountain. East Ponce de Leon Avenue follows the crest of a relatively flat, broad ridge, and is in an urban/suburban environment. Paralleling Ponce de Leon Avenue, on the south side, is the Georgia Railroad line. This is a historic resource that pre-dates the Civil War. It will be addressed in a separate report by Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc.
