Abstract

The present report summarizes a cultural resource survey of the Paschal Boarding House, Scull Shoals Historic Area. Scull Shoals is located approximately one mile due north of the intersection of Georgia Highway 15 and the Oconee River and east of the Oconee River at less than .1 of a mile. The interpretive potential of Scull Shoals is being evaluated by the Forest Service. In the interim, the Paschal Boarding House, which flourished during the late 1800's, was selected for minor improvement as part of an expanding interpretive trail development program on the Oconee Ranger District. The improvement and development consisted of: 1 Construct two log bridges and a trail from the parking lot to the Paschal Boarding House site. 2. Clearing the site of heavy ground cover and selected tree removal. 3. A wooden rail fence around the Paschal Boarding House site. 4. A wire mesh cover over an open well to prevent any serious accidents. 5. A hogwire and barbed wire fence constructed around the open well. 6. A hogwire fence constructed around the associated privy. The remainder of this report will describe each of these six projects.
