Abstract

The proposed project is an addendum to the Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Truman Linear Park Trail in Chatham County, Georgia (GDOT Project No. CSHPP0007-00(631), P.I. No. 0007631) (Sweeney 2012). The APE for this addendum project includes several additions and extensions to the corridor of the Truman Linear Park Trail, which was originally surveyed by Brockington and Associates, Inc., in 2012 (Sweeney 2012).

The original survey area was established for a multi-use trail, part of the Coastal Georgia Greenway, that would extend from the end of the Phase I, at 52nd Street and Bee Road, to its termination at the Lake Mayer recreation facility. The proposed trail would be 8 to 10 feet wide and would be within the existing property right-of-way (ROW) limits of various county, city, and state-owned roads, which do not exceed 40 feet. The addendum portions of the survey area extend the proposed corridor on the northbound side of Sally Mood Drive to its intersection with Eisenhower Drive, and continue along the north side of Eisenhower Drive from its intersection with Sally Mood Drive to the on-ramp for the Harry Truman Parkway. The addendum survey also included several areas where the proposed corridor will shift from its original alignment east of Truman Parkway. This included rerouting the path around a small ditch on Skidaway Road, 100 meters of additional walking path to connect the trail to the William W. Scarborough Jr. Sports Complex, and a complete re-route of the trail to follow the west side of Lovett Drive and the south side of Bacon Park Drive. The final portions of this addendum survey include the addition of a 360 meter portion of trail along the south side of DeRenne Avenue and an additional 130 meters of trail extending from the existing proposed corridor on the north side of DeRenne Avenue.
