Abstract

A Cultural Resource Survey was conducted along a right-of-way measuring some 4.75 miles composed of 2.5 miles of existing but deteriorating road and 2.25 miles of new road proposed right-of-way. This is along John's Mountain running northward from Dunaway Gap. The location is in northeastern Floyd County near the Floyd-Chattooga County line on the eastern slopes of John's Mountain. This location is approximately six and one-half miles north of the town of Crystal Springs. Construction area involves a number of land lots in District 25, Section 3 as follows Land Lots 173, 187, 188, 209, 210, 223, 246, 247, and 258. Land Lot 258 is private property, and special arrangements have been made crossing this territory. This road is in compartment 938 of the Armuchee Ranger District and can be located on the Armuchee and Subligna Quadrangles (USGS). The Cultural Resources Survey was conducted in the field on January 29, 1980, by the author assisted by Forest Worker Bobby Hewett. Figures 1 and 2 locate the survey area.
