Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the Jefferson Street Bridge over CSX Railroad corridor December 12, 2002. The corridor is located just outside the Hillside Mill Village which dates ca. 1915 and has been determined eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The bridge itself and the CSX rail bed it crosses have also been determined eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. Survey of the corridor was limited to the approach on either side of the bridge, contained mostly in mill village house yards. No artifacts or surface features were found by the survey and no further archaeological study is recommended.
