Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archeological sites in the area of a Rockdale County bridge replacement project proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The bridge that would be replaced is located where State Route (SR) 212 crosses Honey Creek, 4.7 km (2.9 mi) south of the SR 138 junction. Intensive archeological survey found one historic period archeological site and one isolated prehistoric artifact in the proposed project area, both of which are severely disturbed by cultivation and subsequent erosion. As a result of these conclusions, we recommend that no significant archeological resources exist within the proposed project corridor. Regarding such resources, we suggest the project be allowed to proceed as planned within the surveyed corridor.
