Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archeological sites in the area of a bridge replacement project proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation in Warm Springs, Georgia. The bridge to be replaced passes over the CSX Transportation Railroad on SR 85A just north of the intersection of the same highway with SR 41/US27. Archival and field research identified only one archeological site (9MW49) in the project area of potential effect (APE), a twentieth century house site. The part of the house site within the APE, at 34 Parham Street in the northwestern quadrant of the vicinity, has little archeological significance due to its recency and its dearth of artifacts. As a result, the project is expected to have no effect upon significant archeological resources. Not withstanding other considerations, we recommend the project be allowed to proceed as planned.
