In April, May, June, July, and September of 2000, and February 2001, TRC Garrow Associates, Inc., performed archaeological testing of 40 sites at Fort Stewart in southeastern Georgia to evaluate their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Of these 40 sites, ten are recommended eligible for listing on the NRHP. Ten sites are recommended eligible for the NRHP: 9BN76, 9BN133, 9BN267, 9EV19, 9EV21, 9EV43, 9LI279, 9LI315, 9LI367, and 9LI463. Intact subsurface cultural features were encountered at 9EV 19, 9EV43, 9LI279, and 9LI315. Intact cultural strata, or distinct activity areas, appear to exist at 9BN76, 9LI367, and 9LI463, which may make it possible to isolate specific cultural components. Site 9EV21 also may represent an isolated occupation. High artifact density, coupled with diagnostic artifacts and the probability of intact cultural strata characterize sites 9BN133. The low artifact density encountered at 9BN267 is offset by the occurrence of multiple kiln mounds representing a unique industrial site type. Sites 9BN85, 9BN90, 9BN96, 9BN98, 9BN 102, 9BN 103, 9BN 107, 9BN 108, 9BN 147, 9EV46, 9EV49, 9EV51, 9EV52, 9EV62, 9EV112, 9LI263, 9LI264, 9LI269, 9LI276, 9LI278, 9LI320, 9LI341, 9LI342, 9LI343, 9LI355, 9LI356, 9LI711, 9LG22, 9LG34, and 9LG43 are recommended ineligible for the NRHP. Sites 9BN76, 9BN133, 9BN267, 9EV19, 9EV21, 9EV43, 9LI279, 9LI315, 9LI367, and 9LI463 are recommended eligible for the NRHP.
