Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the proposed Barnesville Transmission Line in Lamar County, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The corridor surveyed is approximately 7.13 km (4.43 mi) long and 23 meters (75 ft) wide. The project corridor begins east of Old Milner Road on the south side of an existing transmission line right-of-way, and extends east and north crossing State Route 18, US Route 341, US Route 41, and several secondary roads. As the corridor enters the city limits of Barnesville it turns south crosses the Central Georgia Railroad tracks and ends at an existing substation. The entire corridor meanders within and adjacent to an existing transmission line right-of-way. This survey was conducted for Georgia Transmission Corp. No significant archaeological finds were identified during fieldwork. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
