Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) wishes to replace the bridge over Crooked Creek on State Route (SR) 16 in Putnam County, Georgia. The area of potential effect (APE) for the proposed bridge replacement project includes both existing and newly required rights-of-way. Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., contracted with the GDOT through the engineering firm of Post, Buckley, Shuh & Jernigan, Inc., conducted an archeological survey of the proposed project's APE on July 24, 2002. The archeological survey found no archeological resources and a background search conducted prior to the archeological survey found no existing archeological sites recorded within or close to the APE. Therefore, the proposed bridge replacement project will have no adverse effect on archeological resources.
