Abstract

The Upper Noses Creek Interceptor Sewer, Contract 28 C, was designed by Henley-Schmidt, Inc., Marietta, Georgia. The alignment of 28 C is divided into two sections: 1st Sec. begins at the confluence of Mud Creek with Noses Creek (at the terminus of Contract 28 B) and proceeds upstream to the mouth of Ward Creek; 2nd Sec. begins at the intersection of Noses Creek and the Old Dallas Road, follows the latter east to its intersection with Ga-120, Dallas-Marietta Highway, following the latter to a point immediately east and outside the eastern boundary of Kennesaw National Battlefield Park, thence veers south and east along a tributary of Ward Creek to Gold Lot 113, District 19th, 2nd Section. Contract 28 D is a single section, designed by Welker & Associates, Inc., Marietta, Georgia, from the mouth of Ward Creek to the Old Dallas Highway bridge. Welker & Associates are also the designers of Contract 28 B. The field work of intensive archeological survey and the accompanying records check of all documentary sources available were performed by the staff and consultants of the Archeological Survey of Cobb County; Work commenced in November, 1979, and terminated July 30, 1980, thus covering part of the four seasons of a year. Observations of the natural activity of the drainage basin were incorporated into the research methodology and resulted in greater information gain than would have been the case had the survey been accomplished in a single season. The ecological factors, some of which could not have been predicted without such first-hand data, led to the discovery of one site heretofore not visible and below the former water table.
