Abstract

On behalf of James G. Swift & Associates, Brockington and Associates. Inc., conducted an archaeological survey of the 69 hectare (170 acre) Mill Branch tract in Columbia County, Georgia in August 2003. This investigation was undertaken pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Advisory Council of Historic Preservation's Regulations for Compliance with Section 106, codified as 36 CFR Part 800. During background research at the Georgia site files, we found no previously recorded archaeological sites within the study area or within 1.6 kilometers (1.0 mile) of the project tract. During the present investigations, we identified three archaeological sites (9CB615, 9CB616, and 9CB617) and one isolated find (Isolate 1) in the Mill Branch tract. We recommend the archaeological sites and the isolated find not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. There are no extant structures within the project tract. In summary, no historic properties were identified within the Mill Branch tract. We recommend no further management of cultural resources within the project tract.
