Abstract

The purpose of this project was to conduct an archaeological and botanical survey of the proposed Hahira 201 Facilities Plan in Hahira, Georgia, for Miller, Stevenson and Steinichen, Inc., Engineers. Authorization was received on October 10, with fieldwork begun and completed on October 13, 1977. The survey area is located in Lowndes County, Georgia, within the town of Hahira. The areas requiring survey consisted of the site of the 20 acre (8 hectare) treatment plant extension and the proposed outfall line within an existing right-of-way. Reconnaissance level archaeological techniques were utilized in the survey of the proposed outfall line, with a more intensive level of coverage involving subsurface testing within the location of the plant site extension. The findings of this archaeological survey and the methodology employed will be described in detail in Chapter II. The botanical survey was designed to inventory and evaluate the flora located within the proposed construction easements. Special emphasis was placed on the identification of plants presently protected by Georgia or Federal regulations. Chapter III presents the botanical survey, and a species list is included as an appendix to this report.
