Abstract

This report is the result of archaeological investigations at the Twin Oaks Plantation in Meriwether County, Georgia. The work was initiated and sponsored by Drs. J. Harper and Anne Gaston, the present. owners of the site. The archaeological investigations are part of a multidisciplinary restoration project of this mid-nineteenth century plantation. Members of the restoration team inc1ude Mr. Henry H. Smith, architect; Mr. William R. Mitchell, Jr. historian; and Mr. W. Dean Wood, archaeologist.

An archaeological survey and test excavations were undertaken in order to compliment the historical and architectural investigations by providing information that will enhance the authenticity of the restoration efforts.
