Abstract

New South Associates conducted an archaeological survey of expanded area at the intersection of Cascade-Palmetto Highway (S.R. 154) and Wilkerson Mill Road (see attached figure) on February 8, 2002. This intersection was surveyed by New South Associates in 1998 and the findings reported in a previous document entitled: Phase I Archaeological Survey of Seven Intersection Improvements, Fulton County, Georgia. Background research conducted during the initial survey found that no previous archaeological sites had been discovered within a one-mile radius of the project area. Since the 1998 survey, the project area has been modified so that the area of effect was increased along both Cascade-Palmetto Highway and Wilkerson Mill Road. The 1998 survey had evaluated 500-feet long approaches leading up to the Cascade-Palmetto Highway/Wilkerson Mill Road intersection. These approaches have been lengthened to 1125feet along either side of the intersection on Cascade-Palmetto Highway and 900-feet on either side of the intersection along Wilkerson Mill Road. The current pedestrian archaeological survey was conducted for the additional corridor.
