Abstract

On March 21, 2005, staff from Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) revisited the location of a proposed bridge replacement project in Lamar County, Georgia. (Figure 1). The bridge is located on State Route 36 (SR 36) and crosses Buck Creek. The purpose of this revisit was to assess the effects of changes to the original project design on 9LR31, identified during the original survey by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc.(SEAS) [Pluckhahn 2002], and to locate any additional archaeological sites or isolated finds (IFs). This addendum describes the results of the revisit and offers recommendations regarding the impact of the redesign on the previously identified archaeological site. Based on the results of the revisit to the project area, EPEI recommends that no additional archaeological work is necessary in the redesigned project area. No additional information was gathered from the new sections of APE that would affect the eligibility status of 9LR3 1. Although the eligibility of the site remains unknown because its boundaries have not been defined, the portion of 9LR31 within the redesigned APE does not contribute to the eligibility of the site. In addition, no new archaeological sites or isolated finds were identified. EPEI recommends clearance for construction for the overall project based on the revised APE.
