Abstract

A short form for negative findings for Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Turner Lake Road and Clark Street Roundabout, Newton County, Georgia. The project is located on the Porterdale Quadrangle. This project proposes to replace the current intersection controlled by a 4-way stoplight with a roundabout. The roundabout would be 100 feet in diameter (inside). The circular travel lane would be 15 feet in width with an additional 10-foot wide apron to accommodate larger vehicles. The outside shoulders would have 24" curb and gutter with 6-foot wide sidewalks adjacent to the back of curb. Raised splitter islands will also be provided as a directional guide. The interior of the roundabout will be grassed or landscaped. An 8-x-8 foot box culvert pedestrian underpass would be built under Turner Lake Road immediately north of the roundabout. Site file research conducted on behalf of URS Corporation by staff of the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) revealed no previously recorded sites within one mile of the study area.
