Abstract

The investigation of cultural resources in Alexander H. Stephens State Park, excluding the A.H. Stephens Memorial, yielded data on two historic sites, eight structures, five prehistoric sites and numerous agricultural terraces. Potential but unverified resources are nineteen historic and three prehistoric sites. All of the documented sites require further evaluation to assess their significance. All potential sites should be verified and evaluated before they are disturbed. In the memorial grounds, the potential for significant historical archaeological deposits remains. Ground disturbance in the memorial should preceded by testing for and evaluation of such deposits.
