Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research in 1998 and 1999 in land management compartment 0-08, which is located in Muscogee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. Compartment 0-08 is comprised of 743 acres (301 ha), which includes 95 acres that were previously surveyed for archaeological resources. A total of 648 acres (262 ha) was examined in the present study. A total of 37 archaeological loci (26 sites and 11 isolated finds) was identified in Compartment 0-08. Nine sites in this compartment were deemed potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
