Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research in 1998 and 1999 in land management compartment U-01, which is located in Muscogee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. A total of 393 acres (159 ha) was examined. A total of 19 archaeological loci (15 sites and 4 isolated finds) was identified in Compartment U-01. Four sites in this compartment are considered potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
